ACLED Administrative divisions

ACLED assigns events to a hierarchy of administrative areas to support geographic analysis and data integration. Find below the reference lists for the administrative divisions used in ACLED data, including Admin1, Admin2, and Admin3 locations. ACLED periodically reviews and updates its administrative divisions when necessary.

These files can be used to validate location names, support data joins, standardize geographic references, and facilitate analysis across countries and regions. Because administrative structures vary by country, the corresponding administrative level may represent provinces, states, regions, districts, counties, municipalities, or other subnational units.
