Dr Ladd Serwat, Africa Senior Analyst at ACLED, said:
“Civilians in Plateau state face increasing violence after a devastating attack on Monday night in the Angwan Rukuba district of Jos. Armed men came into the area and began shooting sporadically, resulting in at least 26 reported fatalities. Protests erupted Tuesday morning when community members blocked the corpses from being taken to the morgue.”
“Violence in Plateau state surged by 71% in 2025 compared to the previous year, driven by increasing violence involving bandit groups and armed Fulani pastoralists. While security forces try to identify the attackers, a 48hr curfew has been placed on the community. ”
