Despite the Somali government’s security operation against al-Shabaab for the past two years, the group continues to pose a threat to the state.
Violence involving al-Shabaab drove political violence in Somalia in 2024. However, al-Shabaab’s violence decreased slightly and its pattern of activity changed. This infographic compares political violence events involving al-Shabaab between 1 January and 29 November 2024 with the same period in 2023 to understand the changing trends.
