Who runs ACLED?
ACLED is an independent, non-profit organization with a global team of researchers and regional specialists with over 200 staff worldwide. Our CEO, Professor Clionadh Raleigh, began ACLED as part of her PhD project in 2005.
What does ACLED do?
We collect and verify detailed information on every reported incident of political violence, protest, and disorder worldwide. Each event includes data on location, date, actors, and fatalities, all cross-checked against multiple trusted sources, including local partners.
How is the data collected and verified?
ACLED uses a standardized global methodology to ensure consistency and accuracy. All records undergo rigorous review by multiple experts before publication.
Who are ACLED’s sources?
We use a diverse range of verified local, national, and international sources — including trusted media, NGOs, official reports, and direct input from partners and field contacts.
How is ACLED funded?
ACLED is supported by independent institutional donors, including governments, foundations, and NGOs. We do not accept funding that compromises independence or data integrity.
