Following the joint United States-Israeli strikes launched on Iran on 28 February, Tehran retaliated by launching missiles and drones at all six Gulf Cooperation Council states: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. These strikes were unprecedented, and despite claims by Iranian officials that they were aimed at US military facilities, they have also targeted energy infrastructure, including oil fields and facilities; vital civilian infrastructure, including airports; residential areas; and landmark sites. As the conflict persists, further incidents targeting Gulf states are likely as Iran seeks to deter US and Israeli military action by raising the costs for their regional partners.
