Beyond the battlefield: Russia and Ukraine's shadow war

Author

As part of ACLED's coverage of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and its repercussions for Europe writ large, this series on the shadow war between Russia and Ukraine explores the overlooked dimensions of the war such as sabotage and targeted violence against individuals involved in either side’s war effort. The first output in the series of reports looks into suspected Russian activity across Europe seeking to undermine the latter’s support for Ukraine. The second looks at Ukraine’s effort to impose personal costs on those involved in Russia's occupation of Ukraine, while the third looks into the sabotage campaigns both Ukraine and Russia are waging as part of this shadow war.
