Sofía Martínez Fernández is ACLED’s Executive Advocacy Advisor. In this capacity, she is responsible for advising on creating new advocacy, outreach, and partnership strategies to advance the organization’s mission to use evidence-based approaches to better understand and prevent conflict.
She is an expert in conflict and peacebuilding with over 10 years of experience in the non-profit, media, and private sectors. Before joining ACLED, Sofia held several managerial roles in UK-based NGOs and consultancies advising on humanitarian, gender, development, and security issues worldwide. She is a regional expert in Latin America where she has travelled and worked extensively, including as a field-based analyst for Crisis Group based in Guatemala.
Sofia started her career in her home country Spain as a journalist in Agencia EFE. She holds an MSc in Conflict Studies from the London School of Economics (LSE) and studied Journalism and Film during her undergraduate studies at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and Middlebury College. Her research on violence and migration in Latin America has been featured in major outlets such as The Guardian, The Washington Post, The New York Times, AP, NPR, and El Paí
