Data Update: Enhanced coverage in Nigeria using local information networks
ACLED published new data and is incorporating information collected directly from local information networks in Nigeria
On 4 November 2025, ACLED published new data and began incorporating information collected directly from local information networks in Nigeria. This update marks the beginning of efforts to address a sourcing gap created in March 2025 after the loss of a key data-sharing partner due to USAID funding cuts. This first installment covers events from September 2025 onward and has now been incorporated into ACLED’s regular real-time data publication schedule.
Additional data sourced from these networks will be released in forthcoming data updates, to complete coverage for the full period of the gap from March 2025 to present.
Summary of Changes
Date of publication: 4 November 2025
Countries affected: Nigeria
Source label: Events collected through these networks appear in the ‘Source’ column as “Local Network”.
New events and/or corrections added: 204
Considerations for analysis: Prior to March 2025, ACLED sourced information from a partner that has since stopped reporting. Data from the new local information network is being incorporated to fill this gap, but data for the period between March and September 2025 is still being processed and has not yet been published. Trends in the data will reflect an artificial interruption caused by the gap in source coverage, rather than a real decrease in conflict activity. Data for this period will be added in forthcoming updates.
