Data Update: Integration of data from BBC Burmese in ACLED’s Myanmar dataset
Data published to fill a temporary gap in coverage in Myanmar.
On 18 November 2025, ACLED expanded coverage in its Myanmar dataset to include BBC Burmese, a source that was previously incorporated into the dataset prior to August 2021. Following the coup, due to capacity constraints, this source was removed from active coverage. This update restores the source coverage in the data from March 2023 to present, and also fills an additional gap from 27 March to 31 July 2021.
Historically, BBC Burmese was covered in ACLED data until 26 March 2021. As a result of past capacity limitations, there is a gap in sourcing from August 2021 through February 2023, in which data sourced from BBC Burmese was not incorporated. While average contribution from this source is relatively low, contributing to approximately eight events per month, users should treat this period as a known coverage gap. There are no plans to retrospectively fill this gap.
