Data update: Integration of data from Kivu Security Tracker in ACLED’s Democratic Republic of Congo dataset
New historical data published for eastern Democratic Republic of Congo provinces.
Update:
On 2 March 2026, ACLED published the final instalment of data from the Kivu Security Tracker, covering the period 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2020. This release added 2,055 new events and 237 corrections to existing events, and 1,552 new fatalities to the dataset.
With the completion of this final instalment, the project added a total of 4,681 new events and over 5,550 new fatalities across two releases, and ACLED's coverage from the Kivu Security Tracker is now complete for the period January 2018 to November 2023.
Analytical note: Data from the Kivu Security Tracker is not available beyond November 2023, and ACLED has been unable to identify a suitable source to fill this gap. Users conducting trend analysis that extends beyond November 2023 should exercise caution, as the absence of this source from December 2023 onward may affect comparability with the preceding period.
