Situation Summary

In the Donetsk region, clashes continued in the areas of Marinka, Avdiivka, Bakhmut, and Lyman. In the Zaporizhia region, fighting continued along the frontline, with most of the clashes recorded around Robotyne and Verbove (south and southeast of Orikhiv, respectively). In the Kharkiv region, fighting concentrated around Synkivka, northeast of Kupiansk. On the occupied southern bank of the Dnipro river in the Kherson region, Russian forces reportedly advanced near Krynky. 

Russian shelling, missiles, and airstrikes killed around 30 civilians in the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Khmelnytskyi regions. On 6 January, a Russian missile hit a residential building in Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region, killing 11 civilians, including six children, and wounding at least 10 people. On 8 January, mass Russian missile and drone strikes across Ukraine killed three civilians in the western Khmelnytskyi region and wounded 27 civilians, including four children, in Novomoskovsk in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where residential and administrative buildings were also damaged.
