Key trends

  • Russia intensified strikes on warehouses and storage facilities of civilian enterprises across Ukraine. ACLED records at least 37 Russian strikes in nine regions, which led to at least 30 civilian fatalities. This campaign has focused most heavily on the Kyiv region, where ACLED records over a third of the events. It appears to be a direct, likely temporary, response to Ukrainian strikes against the warehouses of Russia’s largest online retailer since 17 July, which remain ongoing.
  • Russian forces are slowly advancing from multiple directions on Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region, having reached the outskirts of the city in mid-June after a year-long assault. The occupation of Kostiantynivka, one of Donetsk’s three main remaining defense fortresses, is only a matter of time, as Russia continues throwing soldiers and resources into its attempt to capture the city. Its capture will open the path for Russia to attack Druzhkivka and launch an assault on the remainder of Ukraine’s defense belt in Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.
