As outlined in ACLED’s methodology document, Gang Violence: Concepts, Benchmarks, and Coding Rules, which explains the parameters for coding gang violence in certain countries and contexts, regular reviews are conducted to determine changes that may result in further countries or territories meeting the inclusion criteria for gang violence events. A review has now resulted in the addition of Venezuela to this list, leading to approximately 200 updates for existing events in the Venezuela dataset and the inclusion of 4,750 new events. These events cover gang violence and other activity involving gangs for the period of 2018 to the present.
