Situation Summary
Fighting continued in the Donetsk region, where Russian forces reportedly made territorial gains near Avdiivka, Marinka, and Bakhmut. Ukrainian and Russian forces clashed along the frontline in the Zaporizhia region, with Ukrainian forces advancing near Verbove, southeast of Orikhiv. Along the administrative boundary between the Luhansk and Kharkiv regions, Russian forces made gains west of Svatove and east of Kupiansk. Fighting also continued near Oleshky on the occupied southern bank of the Dnipro river in the Kherson region, with Ukrainian marines claiming to have secured multiple bridgeheads in the area.1Kyiv Post, ‘Ukrainian Marine Corps Says Multiple Bridgeheads Secured on Left Bank of Dnipro River,’ 17 November 2023 Separately, on 11 November, a local partisan group detonated explosives at Russian headquarters in Melitopol in the Zaporizhia region, reportedly killing at least three Russian officers.
Russian shelling, missiles, and airstrikes killed around 20 civilians in the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kherson, Sumy, and Zaporizhia regions. Russian shelling of Kherson city throughout the week killed five civilians and wounded over 20. On 15 November, a Russian missile strike on Selydove in the Donetsk region killed four civilians, injured three others, and damaged or destroyed over two dozen private houses and several multi-story buildings. Further away from the frontline, Russian missiles and drones reached the northern regions of Kyiv and Zhytomyr, the central regions of Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Poltava, and Vinnytsia, and the western region of Khmelnytskyi, causing damage to civilian infrastructure in the Kyiv and Khmelnytskyi regions.
