Situation Summary
On 8 July, Russian forces launched a barrage of missiles at various targets across Ukraine, including the country’s capital. The two waves of strikes killed 34 people and wounded over 120 others in Kyiv alone. Russian missiles partially destroyed Ohmatdyt, the largest hospital for critically ill children in Ukraine, killing two civilians and injuring 32 others, and a multi-story apartment building in another part of the city, killing 14 civilians and injuring 18 others. Debris from an intercepted Russian missile also damaged a building housing a medical center and a maternity clinic, killing nine people. On the same day, Russian missiles struck Kryvyi Rih in the Dnipropetrovsk region, killing 10 civilians and wounding 53 others, and Dnipro city, killing one civilian and wounding 18 others. Overall throughout the week, Russian shelling, missiles, and airstrikes killed at least 77 civilians in the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Odesa regions, and Kyiv city.
Along the front line, territorial changes were recorded in the Donetsk and Kharkiv regions. Russian forces continued pressing their offensive and occupied several villages northwest of Donetsk city. In the Kharkiv region, Russian forces slowly advanced towards Kupiansk, while Ukrainian forces regained previously lost positions in Sotnytskyi Kozachok bordering Russia. Clashes also continued on the southern front, in the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions, without significant changes in territorial control.
