Residents say the armed conflict in the Amhara region, which has been raging for nearly two years, has intensified in recent weeks. Government forces and Fano militants are also reporting that each other has suffered heavy casualties. The Amhara region, the second largest region in the country, is embroiled in a conflict over whether to sign the peace agreement that ended the bloody Tigray War.
