The 2024 electoral process was one of the most violent in Mexico in recent decades. Only in the year preceding the election, the project “Votar entre balas” (Voting between bullets) has documented more than 550 acts of violence against political actors. In addition, ACLED has recorded other expressions of political violence and disorder in the same period, such as property destruction, violent protests, and other forms of collective action, which have threatened the electoral process and continue to affect political figures. In this context, the event aims to analyze the different expressions of electoral violence in Mexico, as well as its motivations, its perpetrators, its geographical and temporal distribution, and its impact on citizen participation and the quality of democracy in the country. The purpose of the diagnosis is to deepen the knowledge about the multiple causes and manifestations of political violence in Mexico, and thus identify the areas that the incoming authorities will have to address to contain the phenomenon.
