The ACLED Explorer allows you to filter and summarize data via an intuitive form that produces data tables and charts in answer to your questions about event types, actors, locations, and time periods dating back to 2018 (where available).
ACLED Explorer provides an easy way to interact with ACLED data. Use the ‘Table View’ to see results in tabular form with an option to export as a spreadsheet. Switch to the ‘Chart View’ to quickly visualize the results. Follow these steps to get started:
Choose a metric to explore, either ‘Event Counts’ or ‘Fatality Counts’.
Select the types of conflict and/or demonstrations of interest.
Choose a relevant time period, ranging from 1 January 2018 to the most recent week of published ACLED data.
Select regions to help filter down the country choices. If no regions are selected, all country options will display in the country menu.
Select countries of interest. You must select at least one country to view results.
You can also select specific Admin1s (e.g., states, districts, provinces) within the chosen countries if preferred.
Decide how you want to group the data geographically. If ‘Country’ and ‘Event Counts’ are selected, for example, the results will show country-level event counts. But if ‘Location’ is selected, the results will show location-level event counts within each country.
If you are interested in specific actors, select ‘Actors’ to view a menu of actors within the selected countries. You may also choose more general ‘Actor Types’.
You can explore variation in types of events, including ‘Event Types’, ‘Sub-Event Types’, and ‘Civilian Targeting’.
To see how activity varies temporally, view the results grouped by time periods.
