As part of an extensive data improvement project, ACLED is systematically reviewing and enhancing its ‘Violent demonstration’ event data across various countries and regions. Drawing from local insights and demonstration behavior patterns, the project aims to more accurately distinguish between non-destructive behavior (recorded as ‘Peaceful protests’) and destructive behavior (recorded as ‘Violent demonstration’) within the context of demonstrations involving barricade building and tire burning.
This initiative encompasses multiple countries and regions, and the review process will occur on a per-country rolling basis.
