On 17 September 2024, ACLED updated its Ukraine dataset by incorporating events from several new military sources. This update enhances ACLED’s coverage of the ongoing conflict, particularly in the border regions of Sumy, Chernihiv, and Kherson. The update covers events from 1 October 2023 to present and adds over 8,000 events and 15,000 fatalities. Correction Period and Scope
ACLED has added over 8,000 new events to the Ukraine dataset, covering the period from 1 October 2023 to present. This is the first batch of a two-part update, with the second batch expected to be published in mid-2025. The second update, which includes historical data starting from February 2022, will add an estimated 13,000 additional events.

Summary of changes
This update integrates events from several new sources, including:
- Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reports detailing the activities of Operational Command North and Operational Command South of the Ukrainian Armed Forces;
- Ukrainian Marines reports; and
- WarGonzo reports providing additional coverage of events in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia.
These additions improve ACLED’s coverage of cross-border incidents, especially in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, and enhance coverage of Ukrainian military operations in the Kherson region. Overall, the incorporation of new data from these sources improves coverage across 14 different regions in Ukraine. Notably, the Sumy region accounts for nearly 45% of the newly added events, while the Kherson region represents about 20%. In total, at least 15,000 fatalities were added to the dataset.
