ACLED partner Fogo Cruzado aims to record the incidence of shootings and the prevalence of armed violence in the larger metropolitan regions of Rio de Janeiro and Recife. The supplementation and incorporation of Fogo Cruzado data has added approximately 4,000 new events to ACLED’s Brazil dataset for the period of 2018 to present. The vast majority of these events are armed clashes between police and suspected gang actors in Rio de Janeiro and Recife. Information from Fogo Cruzado has also added new details to approximately 2,500 existing events in the ACLED dataset.
